Made it to New Zealand

Tall skinny tress line the beach
I made it to New Zealand, we landed around 11:45 pm on Wednesday.  My current schedule is to get all my cold weather gear about 6:30 pm and fly to Antarctica about 10 pm on Thursday.  If that plan holds I probably won't post something until Friday sometime.

We flew Air New Zealand, that is my new favorite airline.  They have TV's in every seat and you can select from about 20 movies or TV shows or music for the flight and it is all included.  They served you dinner and drinks.  Their safety video was also pretty funny and entertaining.  Also, the AUS airport security was way less strict than US airports, no need to remove shoes or belts, that was nice.

It was too bad that I had to leave Australia so soon, it was a great place and would gladly go back anytime. But glad I don't have to drive anymore this trip.  The US dollar is stronger here in NZ than AUS so that is good.

Before we left Australia we visited a vendor facility and had a great lunch on "Dee Why" beach.  I had some Sydney Rock Oysters, they were a little different, they had like a "belly" with a cream in it, who knows what it was but tasted good.  The beaches are lined with these tall, thin bushed trees.

Remember that spider picture I posted yesterday, well the spider came out to greet us when we got the car from the hotel valet this morning.  One of the guys got in the back seat then starting scrambling to get out (pretty funny to watch).  We and the valet's were then chasing the spider around the inside of the car until we finally flicked it out.  We found out it was a "Huntsman" spider, it is not dangerous to humans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntsman_spider).  But when you see this spider and thinking of it on you, you don't care if it is dangerous or not.  We were glad it was out of the car.

Rock Pool
This picture to the left is a Rock Pool.  They are at most beaches.  They are pretty cool, they build the pool structure but then they get filled by the ocean during high-tide.  Then anyone can swim in them and are free.  Keeps the pool maintenance down.

Dee Why Beach
Picture of Dee Why beach with a golf course in the background along the cliffs.  I woudn't of minded shooting a quick low score there but ran out of time.  They had airplanes doing look out for sharks in the water.

They had a dedicated "The Wiggles" store in the AUS airport.  Thought you parents would like to know that.....

NZ hotel
My hotel in NZ called the Novotel.  It is a brand new hotel and nice.  And has an Irish bar co-locatd with it, thank you!
