I basically spent 16 hours in New Zealand before I had to go start the process of going to Antarctica. I will get more time on my way back. I guess they have really good whale watching and a "Lord of the Rings" jeap tour. Again I had a great meal, breakfast this time at the Irish pub in the hotel. It was just a breakfast sandwich but for some reason everything about it was great. Then we walked around town, there was a lot going on because it is summer. They had bands, markets and lots of people. There was also a really nice botanical gardens. There were a lot of outdoor type shops, felt like 8 REI's on one block. My hotel was on Cathedral Square, which was cool because all the action was taking place in the square. Sorry I don't have much from New Zealand, I just was not there very long.
There was one small earthquake when I was there (and one right before I got there), 4.1. I did not really feel it. But friends said that the one before I got there created just a huge bang in their hotel. Here is a picture of a building that is being held up because of the damage caused by the major earthquake several months ago.
